Cisco Systems Canada Co. has announced the launch of new additions to its CiscoWorks family with the release of the CiscoWorks Wireless LAN Solution Engine (WLSE). The WLSE is what the company calls a “specialized appliance” enabling the management of Cisoc Aironet wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructures. The offering centrally identifies and configures access points in groups defined by the users, and reports on client associations and throughput, the company said. The centralized management capabilities are enhanced by WLSE’s integrated template-based configuration tool, which add eased configuration and better productivity. The company also announced enhancements to its CiscoWorls LAN Management Solution, featuring enhanced security and operational support. Among these enhancements: New Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Secure Shell (SSH) protocol support in CiscoView enables an increase in the number of transactions between CiscoWorks applications, managed devices and clients, according to Cisco. Late last month, 3Com Corp. released the next product designed to support its XRN technology. The 3Com Switch 4050 offers a higher density of copper gigabit ports than its Switch 4060, and will ultimately become part of the company’s alternative “pay-as-you-grow” offering when the firm’s XRN Interconnect Kit ships later this year. The 4050 LAN switch offers high performance and availability and provides secure, Layer 3 switching. The Switch 4050 supports IP routing, and implements security features such as access control lists, ensuring that users only have access to authorized resources. The product also is able to redirect Web traffic to the 3Com SuperStack 3 Webcache, ultimately reducing the bandwidth loading onto a WAN. Available this month, the 4050 is priced at $23,995. For details, the company is online at www.3com.com.
