NCR Corp. last month revealed a new approach to its managed services portfolio, incorporating business intelligence fundamentals in order to improve operational efficiency in retail and financial markets. The Toronto-based company explained that its new NCR Managed Services bring end-to-end management to enterprise IT environments while offering support for different components, including automated teller machines (ATMs) and point-of-sale systems, in addition to servers, workstations and PCs. At the core of the technology lies a combination of service transaction information and mining tools.
Mobility moves
Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co. recently announced a slew of new mobile offerings. The Mississauga, Ont.-based company has come out with new iPAQs and Tablet PCs, which it said are designed to take complexity out of mobile computing and give users a true anytime-anywhere usage model. HP announced three new iPAQ models, ranging from small business to enterprise functionality based on the Microsoft Corp. Pocket PC operating system.
Fraud fighting
In an effort to fend off online fraud, security vendor VeriSign Inc. unveiled Fraud Protection Services late last month. Fraud Protection Services is managed by VeriSign and detects online transactions that have a probability of being fraudulent. Its fraud detection engine, developed by the vendor, is the primary technology being used to detect and monitor fraud, according to the company. The system looks for three types of online fraud: product, identity and cash.
Security index created
A group of Canadian associations is joining forces to create a national index of Canadian technology companies working in the advanced security sector. The Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA) has pulled together the Canadian Alarm and Security Association (CANASA) and the Canadian Association of Information Technology Professionals (CIPS) to create a database of Canadian security companies within the next year. The index will deal exclusively with the application of information technologies in the security industry.
