The latest update to the BlackBerry 10 operating system allows users the company’s smart phones to access Android applications.
Version 10.31 of the BlackBerry OS began rolling out Thursday for BlackBerry (TSE:BB) 10 devices including the Passport, Z30, Z3, Z10, Q10 and Q5 smart phones as well as the luxury Porsche P9963 and P9982 handsets.
By downloading the update, user gain access to the Amazon Appstore which offers a host of Android mobile apps previously unavailable on the platform of the Canadian phone maker.
The update also allows users to access the company’s new enhancements including BlackBerry Blend, BlackBerry Assistant, a battery boosting technology, plus new improvements to the BlackBerry Hub, calendar, camera and multimedia features.
BlackBerry Blend enables users to access messaging and content in a BlackBerry smart phone such as email, text messages, calendar, context and media, available on their computer or tablet.
BlackBerry Assistant is the company’s digital; assistant app that enables the use of voice and text commands to access both work and personal content from their phone.
Users also get up to a 15 per cent boost on their battery power by customizing a new power saving feature.
