Axceler Inc., a Woburn, Mass.-based software developer, is shipping ControlPoint, an administrative tool for Microsoft Corp.’s SharePoint.
SharePoint lets IT departments create portals – including wikis and blogs – so workers can collaborate on projects. Axceler, which also makes tools for Lotus Domino, says ControlPoint lets administrators visualize all of their SharePoint environment and establish control through permissions management. It also lets them analyze and enforce governance policies, which is said to help identify non-compliant sites.
It also lets users search across the SharePoint environment to identify problems with sites, such as those close to a quota or those with unique permissions. The security-trimmed architecture lets administrators manage, navigate and search while only seeing what the SharePoint permissions settings allow them to see. Axceler says ControlPoint allows relatively quick searches which are parameter-based.
