The state of Queensland in Australia has inked a five-year,shared services deal as part of its electronic document and recordsmanagement system strategy.
The deal, covering more than 30 departments, with LogicaCMG andthe Dicom Group involves implementing the Ascent Capture platformacross government as the standard application for informationcapture. It is one of many shared services initiatives currentlybeing rolled out to standardize processes and recordmanagement.
Dicom’s Ascent Capture platform collects paper, electronicdocuments and forms transforming them into retrievable content thatreside in the organization’s business applications anddatabases.
LogicaCMG’s ability to meet compliance directives was central tothe deal, according to a government spokesman. The Ascent platform,which also supports centralized functions such as finance, HR,technology, property and facilities management, will be used toprocess millions of documents received across each department everymonth. It will reduce operating expenses with lower data entrycosts and faster access to information. The platform will alsointeract with a number of Shared Service Providers (SSP) where thecaptured data is used for further processing such as purchaseorders and invoice processing.
The shared services model is being employed by a number of stategovernments across Australia in a bid to achieve cost savings.
Western Australia is a prime example where the government willsave A$50 million (US$37 million) a year by standardizing disparatefinance and payroll systems on Oracle.
Michael Cawsey, Dicom Australia managing director, said the dealpositions the company as a major player in providing strategicshared services applications. By partnering, Cawsey said Dicom wasable to use LogicaCMG’s local expertise.
