Targeting the rapidly growing U.S. Hispanic population, AT&T Wireless Services Inc. launched a Spanish-language version of its site this week, replete with information on international services and calling plans.
The site, which contains much of the same content available on the English-language version, was created to serve the over 35 million Hispanics living in the United States, the company said.
Citing a study by Catalan-language news site Vilaweb.com, AT&T Wireless said that only three per cent of Internet content is currently available in Spanish, while 68 per cent of content is in English.
By providing a Spanish-language site, the company hopes to scoop up more of this neglected audience, whose numbers and economic influence have continually swelled over the past several years. AT&T already offers customer service, product literature, packaging and advertising in Spanish in selected markets.
