I enjoy reading Ken Hanley’s column in ComputerWorld Canada. He invites comments, so here are some of my thoughts.
Too many managers I have had in my career suck big time at their jobs. They do not know how to motivate. They do not know how to delegate. They do not know how to give adequate directions to staff. Too many managers have the idea that they are God and the minions should jump when they speak. When someone questions or tries to state an opinion they feel threatened.
I can honestly say I have only had two excellent managers in my 22-year career. I have had a couple of okay managers and I have had some bad managers, but most have simply been ineffective.
And companies wonder why projects are late and overbudget. Go figure.
There simply is not enough common sense. Too many managers do not seek and use the opinions of their staff. Too many managers are busy protecting their inadequate backside to do the job they are supposed to do. I could go on. I have many examples from over the years to give me faith in my opinions.
Thanks for hearing me out…
