Is HP leaving the cloud?

By the end of October Hewlett-Packard will be effectively split into two companies – one centered on personal computers and printers and the other focused on business technology.

While HP will still be selling servers, the company’s main customers will be mostly businesses and giant companies like Facebook, says writer Quentin Hardy of the New York Times, HP will no longer try to compete with the likes of Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.

“We thought people would rent or buy computing from us. It turns out that it makes no sense for us to go head-to-head,” Hardy quotes Bill Hilf, head of HP’s cloud business, as saying.
