Dave is a leading IT strategist with over 33 years of experience. He has worked in both public and private sectors as well across multiple industries. He currently holds the position of CIO at the University of Waterloo, where he works with the deans, senior administrators and information technology teams as the strategist and manager who leads the forging of an integrated architecture and infrastructure that is best in class, with a role to advance a collegial process of strategic change across a distributed IT community. Before that as the first CIO at the City of Toronto, he oversaw approximately $500 million in current and future projects and approximately 700 staff members supporting the technology infrastructure operation at the city. Dave holds a Bachelor of Business Management degree from Ryerson University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto. He began his career at Gulf Canada before joining the Ontario government, where he worked for 20 years in roles of increasing responsibility ranging from a Senior Technical Analyst to Senior Business Analyst and later, as the Head Architect and Chief Technology Officer for the provincial government. He left that position to join Chartwell IRM Inc. (now part of KPMG) as Vice-President, National Public Sector program. In that position, he was responsible for leading information management, strategy and IT initiatives at three levels of government.
