Going fast rather than super-fast may be good enough for most organizations, according to the latest sales figures for Ethernet switches. Gartner reports that revenues from switch sales to organizations and carriers fell 12 per cent in the first quarter and port shipments dropped six per cent compared to the fourth quarter of 2006.
The bulk of those sales, 67 per cent, were Gigabit devices, with Power over Ethernet shipments accounting for 20 per cent of all ports shipped.
