A Victorian ICT skills working group in Australia is hosting ICT careers sessions for Year 12 students across the state’s regional and metropolitan areas.
The events, titled Upload Your Future, will use IT graduates and professionals to encourage students into the industry by explaining what the career involves. The 12 sessions are funded by Multimedia Victoria under the state government’s A$1.9 million (US$1.45 million) ICT skills package.
Victorian Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Marsha Thomson said the sessions provide ICT industry facts from industry professionals.
“Each of the 12 Upload Your Future sessions will provide an opportunity for year 12 students and their parents to hear recent graduates and industry professionals explain exactly what is involved in technology courses and careers,” Thomson said. “These information sessions will provide students with the facts about ICT, directly from people in the field.”
She said ICT jobs are increasing and IT skills are applicable to most industries.
“ICT skills provide a flexible basis for a career in almost any industry – ranging from fashion to finance, and construction to communications,” she said. “Over the past year, the number of ICT jobs has jumped 25 percent [which] means the graduates with the right technology skills are in huge demand.”
