Ross Pellizzari to head Avaya Canada

Avaya Inc. confirmed Monday its new president for Canada is Ross Pellizzari, a former Cisco Systems Inc. executive.

Sources had confirmed earlier this month to Computer Dealer News magazine that Pellizzari would head up Avaya's Canadian subsidiary.

Pellizzari left Cisco Canada in 2008.

Avaya has its roots in AT&T Corp.'s Bell Labs division, which became Lucent Technologies Inc,. and spun off its enterprise products as Avaya in 2000.

Lucent merged with French telecom manufacturer Alcatel SA in 2006. Avaya last year acquired the enterprise products of Nortel Network s Corp., which is currently operating under bankruptcy protection.

With the Nortel products, Avaya is back in the switch and router business. Its flagship product is Aura, which is essentially a next-generation private branch exchange comprised of a Linux server and Avaya's Session Manager and Communications Server software.

Pellizzari's boss will be John Dilullo, Avaya's president for the Americas.
