U.S. outsourcer Sutherland Global Services Inc. has opened its third business process outsourcing (BPO) delivery center in Clark, Pampanga, in the Philippines, taking its total number of staff in the country to 2,000.
Sutherland, a BPO provider in Rochester, New York, is planning to increase its staff in the Philippines to 3,000 over the next year, the company said Tuesday. The company already has two BPO facilities in Manila.
A number of multinational and Indian outsourcing companies are expanding in other Asian countries besides India to tap the staff pools in those countries. Among them, Satyam Computer Services Ltd., a software and services company in Hyderabad, is setting up a 2,000-seat software development facility in Malaysia, that will service the company’s customers worldwide. Other companies are expanding in China to take advantage of low-cost staff there.
With headquarters in the U.S., Sutherland currently operates 18 global delivery centers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, India and the Philippines. India, with over 8,000 staff, currently accounts for over 50 percent of Sutherland’s staff worldwide.
The expansion in the Philippines will not have an impact on the growth of Sutherland’s operations in India, said a spokesman for the company on Wednesday. Sutherland is adding 6,000 staff worldwide over the next 12 months, of which between 3,000 to 4,000 staff will be added in India, the spokesman added.
