Web-based business software maker NetSuite Inc. appears to be extending its e-commerce presence with its recent acquisition yesterday of order management software developer OrderMotion Inc.
The purchase closely follows NetSuite acquisition in January of point-of-sale software vendor, Retail Anywhere.
Many businesses are being pressured to provide their customers with better ordering experience over multiple channels, according to China Martens of analyst firm Forrester Research. The challenge is to provide consumers and partner more visibility and feedback opportunity throughout the transaction of an order.
There is also a growing need for enhanced integration across sales, distribution, warehouse and service centers. A more order management and order processing-focused solution will strengthen NetSuite’s position in the space, Martens said.
OrderMotion’s product is targeted as companies that deliver straight to customers. It is a space which is now replete with ship-to-store programs that enable customers to order a product over the Internet and then go to bricks-and-mortar store to pick up the purchase.

Retail locations are also increasingly being used by businesses as regional distribution centres as opposed to relying on large central warehouses. This, according to Andy Lloyd, general manager of commerce products for NetSuite, allows retailers to save money.
Such businesses, he said can use OrderMotion’s software along with NetSuite’s SuiteCommerce software.
While NetSuite’s solutions run on the Oracle technology stack, those of OrderMotion are based on Microsoft .NET
