Google Cloud Expands Lineup Of AMD-Powered Instances

Google Cloud will expand its range of AMD-powered instances, bringing into GA new Compute Optimized VMs powered by 3rd Gen AMD EPYC (known as “Milan”) processors.

Google’s Compute Optimized VMs offer the highest consistent performance per core to boost real-time application performance. It is the benchmark for most high-performance workloads.

The new AMD-powered C2D instances offer the largest VM sizes in the Compute Optimized VM family. These are best suited for memory-bound workloads such as high-performance databases, gaming and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads such as electronic design automation (EDA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

The new instances can be configured with up to 112 vCPUs (56 cores), 896 GB of memory and 3 TB of Local SSD. C2D is available in standard, high-cpu, and high-mem, each with seven machine types for optimal memory-to-core ratio to better adapt to your workload.

The ubiquity of AMD’s EPYC processor drove AMD’s robust 2021 results, with the company reporting record revenue and profitability in 2021, mainly due to more than 100% growth in data centre revenues.

Google’s C2D instances are now out in the following regions: us-central1 (Iowa), asia-southeast1 (Singapore), us-east1 (South Carolina), us-east4 (North Virginia), asia-east1 (Taiwan), and europe-west4 (Netherlands).
