Oracle will extend its support for Oracle JDK 6 until February 2013, according to a blog post by Henrik Stahl, senior director of Oracle’s for Java platform technology group. According to Stahl, the reason for this extension is that Java 6 was used widely for a period of five years, making such a decision appropriate given the developer base. From now on, Oracle plans to release a new JDK every two years (Java 8 is scheduled for next year).
