openSUSE has released an updated version of Li-f-e, its Linux variant targeted at educational institutions. The new release is built on openSUSE 12.2 and comes with a large amount of software (3.3 GB) bundled on the installation DVD. It features the KDE, Gnome and Cinammon desktop environments as well as the Sugar Learning Platform suite, a collaborative platform designed specifically for schools.
Optimized for educational deployments (e.g., on thin-clients), the new Li-f-e comes bundled with math, geometry, computer-aided design software. It can be installed via live DVD or USB stick. The ISO contains the KIWI-LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) server that openSUSE says is simple enough for even non-technical users to install.
