LG Electronics has announced a partnership with Montreal-based Element AI at CES 2020.
The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding which outlines a strategic partnership in which they will work together on multiple AI-related research and development programs aimed at supporting the development of upcoming products and solutions for LGE.
Element AI is a global developer of AI-powered services and software that helps enterprises operationalize AI.
“The development of this strategic partnership is an important indicator that industry leaders like LGE are becoming increasingly aware of the challenges with operationalizing AI particularly at the point of interface with human users,” said JF Gagne, chief executive officer and co-founder of Element AI, in a press release.

The first step in this partnership effort is a joint research initiative which was also unveiled at the event today. Titled Levels of AIX: AI’s Future and the Human Experience, this conceptual structure proposes four distinct levels of advancement to understand the different aspects of AI and its interactions with users.
LGE says the project aims to guide industry and AI practitioners and to promote the responsible development of AI-powered products and solutions. As next steps, both parties plan to use this structure to accelerate the pace of development and to shorten the length of time it takes for AI research to impact consumers, and leverage human-centric values to generate greater value for consumers and society.
In recent years, LGE has embarked on a program to integrate its AI strategy and AI-powered products under the ThinQ brand. The success of these initiatives has helped LGE further expand its efforts in the field of artificial intelligence and its partnership with Element AI is a part of this program.
