Tech giants are hiring in Canada, and Amazon is leading the way.
Approximately two per cent of all tech-related job opportunities in 2017 were at Amazon.com, followed by CGI Group and RBC with one per cent each, according to Indeed.com.
“As every industry is being disrupted by digital innovation, virtually every company is becoming a technology company and seeking tech talent,” said Jodi Kasten, managing director at Indeed Canada, in a press release. “In fact, some of the fastest growing jobs on Indeed over the last few years have been in tech.”
Amazon is also in the process of selecting a city for its new HQ2 headquarters. Toronto is the only Canadian city on the shortlist, and if the city were to get the new headquarters, it would create more than 50,000 jobs, according to Amazon.
By 2019, there will be a demand for more than 182,000 skilled ICT workers, according to a 2016 report from the Information and Communications Technology Council. As of 2015, there were more than 877,470 ICT workers employed in Canada, most of whom worked in sectors outside of traditional ICT.
