Last month at the CTIA Wireless IT and Internet trade show in San Diego, IBM Corp. announced plans to deliver business-critical Lotus messaging and collaboration software solutions to users of Compaq’s iPAQ Pocket PC. According IBM, the delivery will enable mobile workers to use Lotus Mobile Notes to access their information management systems including mail, calendars, and address books from their iPAQ Pocket PCs. IBM spokesperson Blair Hankins said the company is teaming with industry leaders like Compaq to ensure that their mutual corporate customers can leverage current investments and realize fast return on investment (RoI) on new ones. In other IBM Corp. news, the company recently announced an agreement with Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Avaya Inc. to develop and provide joint solutions that will enable e-businesses and service providers to deploy new communications management, customer relationship management (CRM) and contact centre solutions. Under the agreement, IBM Global Services will develop consulting and implementation services to complement various Avaya products and services. Also included in the agreement are unified communications solutions to enable simplified end user access to an array of messages and multimedia from virtually any communications device. Foster City, Calif.-based developer of network infrastructure software Inktomi Corp. and Ottawa, Ont.-based automated Web site management software provider, Watchfire Corp. recently announced an alliance. This agreement will allow enterprises to optimize content within their networks to enable better quality search activity across corporate intranets, extranets and Web Sites. The agreement leverages Inktomi’s search technology and Watchfire’s metadata management software. According to Inktomi spokesperson Troy Toman, the agreement with Watchfire lets enterprise customers develop better content that can be easily and more readily retrieved.
