Understanding How IBM Spectrum Protect Enables Hybrid Data Protection

In today’s business environments, transitioning from on-premise backup systems to cloud-based solutions can set the stage for economic benefits. But this is not without making significant considerations around provider and technology choice. In addition, some backup hardware and software continue to need to be on-premise in order to meet mission-critical recovery time objectives. The answer: hybrid data protection.

While many organizations still use tape, the future is likely with hybrid “disk-to-disk-to-cloud” solutions that combine the agility and economic benefits of cloud with onsite topologies and both internal and service provider expertise. To meet these needs, IBM’s Spectrum Protect product—formerly Tivoli Storage Manager—has continued evolve to support new data protection architectures, such as high-available virtualized and hybrid backup environments.
