Direct PC vendor Gateway Inc. launched two new high-end desktop systems based on Intel Corp.’s new Pentium III 850MHz processor, the company announced this week.
The first desktop in the company’s Gateway Performance (GP) series is designed for business customers as well as customers who want to run graphics-intensive applications. The GP series is designed with large-capacity hard drives and high-end graphics chips. Prices for the Gateway GP with the 850MHz processor start at US$2,499, the company said in a statement.
The second desktop is the consumer-targeted Gateway Performance 850XL PC. The PC is aimed at the gaming and multimedia audience and is optimized for high-speed Internet access, such as DSL (digital subscriber line) technology. Pricing for the Gateway Performance 850 starts at $2,599, the company said.
Earlier this month, Gateway launched its first system with Advanced Micro Devices Inc.’s 1GHz Athlon processor. Pricing for the 1GHz PCs begins at $2,999.
