Communications carrier Primus Canada launched an expanded data centre in the Toronto downtown core Wednesday to serve what the company calls its growing roster of managed hosting, shared, co-location and data and Internet customers.
Ted Chislett, president and chief operating officer of Primus Canada, said by opening the company’s first full service data centre in Canada they have responded to customer demand for support of their data and Internet requirements.
In a press release Chislett noted that the facility was in keeping with the trend to serving more customers through smaller data centres.
The data centre is designed to support asuite of data products to compliment the company’s voice services, Chislett added.
The 7,500-square-foot facility offers world-class levels of reliability and redundancy, including HVAC temperature control, anti-static floors, triple redundant backbone and fully redundant on-site power supply for uninterrupted service in the event of power outages, Primus said. Security features include an alarm system, controlled around-the-clock access, biometric security system and complete video camera surveillance.
Co-location services and equipment are contained in a separate area with supervised customer access by appointment only.
Primus said the centre serves customers through its 50 Gbps (gigabits per second) capacity Internet protocol backplane routing and switching centre.
The servers connect with Primus’s 46 locations across Canada and to over 45 Internet peering and transit interconnects on Primus’s global broadband Internet/data network.
