The recent passing of my father, Morton, forced me to re-examine the use technology to sustain a business. While I did the proverbial deathbed watch, I started to think about how advances in technology had not only improved, but also extended my father’s life. When the time came, there were technological options that could have extended his life from mere hours to days, but these could not improve the quality of his life. As a family we were confronted with the decision to use this technology for technology’s sake and our own desire not to let go or to say that any further investment in technology was not going to enhance my father’s life nor provide any benefit to anyone else.
