Apple Computer Inc. said it was coming in April, and they delivered on the first day of the month. Monday the company released its Bluetooth Preview software.
Bluetooth is an emerging wireless networking standard designed to enable computers and various peripherals to communicate with each other at speeds up to 1MB over short distances (about 30 feet or less). PDAs, cell phones, printers and other devices are beginning to support Bluetooth. Bluetooth-enabled computers can communicate with each other, too.
At last month’s Macworld Expo in Tokyo, Japan, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that the company would support Bluetooth beginning in April, first with the release of a technology preview of the Bluetooth software and also with the release of a Bluetooth USB Adapter — a device manufactured by DLink that enables any USB-equipped Macintosh to communicate with other Bluetooth-equipped devices.
Apple is selling the DLink adapter directly from its own Apple Store Web site.
To use the Bluetooth Preview software, you’ll need to run Mac OS X 10.1.3 or later.
