Designed to improve performance and battery life for personal digital assistants (PDAs) Intel Corp. released Tuesday its latest processors for the handset space.
The announcement includes two additions to the smaller, Intel PXA26x family, including the Intel PXA263 processor, a “stacked” processor for PDAs and the Intel PXA260 processor, a “pin compatible” product that Intel said will allow PDA vendors develop product more quickly – designers can build a single board to stack flash memory and computing products without changing the design. The third product, the Intel PXA255 processor, will replace the PXA250 processor released in 2002, Intel said.
Intel said it also plans to continue developing Intel XScale processors to wireless smart display and portable media player (PMP) market segments. Products using the new processors will be available later this year.
