Sophos Inc. on Tuesday announced upgrades to its MailMonitor products for Microsoft Corp.’s Exchange 2000 server and IBM Corp.’s Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino servers.
Providing increased protection against viruses, better message handling and integration features is where the value lies in this release, the company says.
Sophos MailMonitor and acts as an electronic bio-filter for e-mail, scanning all incoming messages for infections. Administrators are automatically notified and can choose to quarantine, delete or disinfect malicious code. This includes viruses, Trojan horses and worms in compressed and archived file attachments.
Now MailMonitor for Microsoft Exchange v5.1 includes support for the Microsoft virus-scanning application program interface (VSAPI) 2.0 so the Exchange information store, newsgroups, Internet and intranet discussion boards can be fully scanned in both active and background modes.
Administrators can also block all attachments to prevent unknown electronic pathogens from being distributed via Exchange newsgroups.
The enhancements to MailMonitor for Lotus Notes and Domino include support for the R6 environment as well as continued support for R4 and R5 environments.
Sophos MailMonitor is available for download on Sophos’ distribution site called Enterprise Manager and updates are provided continuously for optimal anti-viral coverage, the company says.
