Entrust Inc. and Waveset Technologies Inc. on Monday announced they have entered into a strategic relationship whereby the companies will swap technologies to design identity management solutions, the organizations said.
Dallas-based Entrust will launch its new Secure Identity Management solution this quarter, which allows businesses to manage Web applications and employee identity within the enterprise. The product also offers provisioning and the management of identities, security services such as authentication and digitally signed transactions and workflow information. Entrust said it has integrated its Web access management software with Waveset’s identity management technology to create the new offering.
Austin, Tex.-based Waveset will incorporate Entrust’s security capabilities into its Lighthouse security management solution that it will bring to market in the third quarter. The Lighthouse offering will provide certificate-based authentication and digitally signed and encrypted e-mail transactions for requests and approval. It will also support a digitally-signed audit log for all users’ and administrators’ activities related to identity permission and profiles. In addition, the companies said they will jointly engage in the development of new products in the future.
“What we bring to the table is providing strong security into the identity management systems by being able to strongly authenticate a user. In the case of an administrator into the system, a digital identity could be used to authenticate the environment by using policy-based access control as well,” said Steve Neville, senior manager product marketing at Entrust in Ottawa. Other security features include the use of smart cards, token and user name password authentication, he added.
Entrust has usually targeted global 2000 customers, and said it will continue to do so: the new offering will be aimed at the larger enterprise. Neville said specifically it is geared at government, financial and pharmaceutical vertical markets.
