Vignette Corp., a content management and portal solution provider, said last month that its Vignette V7 family of Web application management framework solutions has been vetted for compatibility with IBM hardware and software.
Based on the open source J2EE architecture, Vignette V7 products include Vignette Content Management, Vignette Dialog, Vignette Application Portal and Vignette Application Builder.
The announcement highlights a growing push to support open source technology and multi-vendor enterprise environments. Open source applications allow users to amend and adapt source code and ultimately control how the software functions.
According to analyst Jeffrey Mann for Meta Group in Stamford, Conn., most enterprises have a heterogeneous IT infrastructure and are looking at application vendors for flexibility when it comes to supporting their existing technology.
End-users are seeking assurances that their software purchases will support their chosen infrastructure configurations – hence the push for vendors to certify their solutions on a variety of technology platforms, Mann said.
Vignette V7’s support for IBM infrastructure allows organizations to standardize on a unified solution for managing both portals and content, the Austin, Tex.- based company said, adding that support extends to the AIX operating system, WebSphere Application Server, DB2 Universal Database, IBM Directory Server, WebSphere Portal Server, IBM MQSeries, IBM Content Manager 8, Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino.
