Cisco unveils application acceleration gear

Cisco Systems Inc. of San Jose, Calif. is adding new products and services, including an application acceleration appliance, to its Application Network Services (ANS) category.

The Application Control Engine (ACE) 4710 supports 2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of application traffic and 50 virtual devices. It includes FlashForward technology, which Cisco says eliminates network delays cased by embedded Web objects, such as JavaScript files. It is shipping now with a promotional price of US$15,995.

A third product shipping under the ANS brand is XML Gateway Release 5.2, designed for service-oriented architecture and applications.
