Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software provider, Open Text Corp., says it has introduced Version 10 of Livelink Collections Server. The Waterloo, Ont.-headquartered company says the new version has specialized document collection and search capabilities for libraries, archives, research institutions and other organizations managing huge stores of valuable historical, technical or research information.
Livelink Collections Server’s new features aim to help users to reduce costs, speed up research collaboration and improve information access. They are designed to provide a single, secure repository and specialized tools to manage large, complex documents and collections with dense subject matter and specific terminology.
According to the company, version 10 offers powerful features for research management, technical document publishing, content archiving, contract or patent information management and litigation support. The solution, says the company, also extends Livelink for Libraries (formerly Techlib), Open Text’s advanced library automation application, and integrates with Livelink’s other collaboration and content management tools.
“Livelink Collections Server handles the specific information management challenges faced by libraries and research organizations,” says Rob Shaw, product marketing manager at Datacentrix Pty. Ltd, an ICT infrastructure and solutions provider. “Version 10 extends the ability to professionally manage and deliver an organization’s most precious information collections to build long-term corporate memory, or to support collaborative research communities.”
Customers can use Livelink Collections Server to store and display massive documents such as legal depositions and technical reports, Open Text says. A single text field of a Livelink Collections Server can handle documents of up to one million pages, the company adds. Open Text notes that advanced caching features segment large documents into manageable chunks, displaying only those portions needed by the user.
According to the company, search features in Livelink Collections Server deliver the most relevant information quickly and in context, regardless of the size of the document collection. The system aims to provide standard relational queries, structured field searches, as well as text queries against unstructured information.
Meta data features allow users to apply simple or detailed subject and descriptive analysis that enhances retrieval of complex content stored in Livelink Collections Server, the company adds.
The solution also offers a thesaurus capability to manage taxonomies that can clarify and elaborate on terminology, capturing synonymous terms, bilingual equivalents or abbreviations, Open Text concludes.
