As broadband access becomes less expensive and more IT managers want off-site backup, the demand for online backup services will grow by more than 33 per cent per year, according to a market research firm.
IDC of Framingham, Mass. recently released a study, titled Online Backup Servies Forecast 2007-2011: A New Market Emerges, which predicts the market will reach US$715 million by 2011.
Although the market will be dominated by consumers and small businesses, IDC predicts medium and large-sized businesses will also purchase online backup services.
In a separate study, titled Worldwide Storage 2008 Top Ten Predictions: New Paradigms, IDC predicted the market for storage will grow at nearly 60 per cent per year, and solid state disks will become more attractive to users as prices drop.
