Computer Associates acquires Tiny Software

Computer Associates announced it has acquired Santa Clara, Calif.-based Tiny Software, a maker of Windows-based desktop and server firewall products, for an undisclosed amount.

Sam Curry, CA’s vice president of eTrust Security Management, said CA acquired Tiny primarily for its firewall software development kit to fill a gap in CA’s own product line. It’s expected that the Tiny firewall technology will be added to desktop products that also combine CA’s anti-virus and anti-spyware software (acquired last year from PestPatrol).

In addition, CA will continue to support and market the Tiny Software line of Tiny Personal and Tiny Server firewalls directly to consumers and business. There are an estimated 2 million customers at present.

“This firewall, elegantly designed, has been popular with high-tech users,” notes Curry, adding that Tiny Software maintains technical development in both the U.S. and the Czech city of Prague. “We’ve had our own eTrust firewall from years ago, but frankly this is better.”

Tiny Software earlier this year announced its 2005 product line of firewalls, detailing varying types of spyware-related protection, such as preventing code injection. More recently, it released Tiny Firewall 64, a firewall for 64-bit Windows operating systems.

OEM licenses of Tiny Software include Microsoft, Unisys and the U.S. Air Force.
