2. VIRTUALIZATION ADMINISTRATION
There’s no question virtualization is hot: Witness the explosive IPO of VMWare. Some in the industry downplay the hype, but Eckert disagrees with them.
“Someone a couple weeks ago told me that virtualization wasn’t big, that it’s slowly catching on,” Eckert says. “That’s not what I see, and that’s not what’s going on in the industry. It’s already there, it’s already big, and almost everybody is already doing it, and they’re doing it at very high levels.” He points to the sellout VMWorld conference in September as evidence.
One problem: It’s not addressed on the curricula of educational institutions.
“Virtualization really is new, and on the education side, we just don’t do it,” Eckert says. TriOS is planning to introduce a virtualization program in 2008.
“It’s going to make its way into the educational field, but it won’t be today, it won’t be tomorrow, it’ll be next year.”
