Microsoft Visual Studio has just acquired tools that will help its users create applications for Office 2013, Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint 2013.
That method is still supported on Office 2013 according to Sean Laberee, Microsoft senior program manager in developer engineer. However, this new release allows developers to use their Web skills and a host Web-focused programming languages to create new apps

For instance, Laberee said, with Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012, developers can create apps using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, HTML, Representational State Transfer (RST), OAuth and OData
Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012 includes templates and add-ins that lets users create, test and package applications Office 2013 and SharePoint 2013.
The templates and tools are available for three types of apps:
– Task pane apps (apps that appear on the task pane of an Office application)
– Content apps (apps that appear inside a document’s content)
– Mail apps for Outlook 2013and Outlook Web Access
