Checkered reviews and weak sales numbers appear to have not discouraged Microsoft Corp. about the future of its Surface tablets.
In fact, the company is now looking for a designer to join the Surface Team and help it create a new line tablet devices for the Microsoft.
On Saturday, Microsoft posted a job add for a Model Maker/Prototyper on the job board of Coroflot.com.
“Are you passionate about building cool devices and technologies,” the ad read. “The Surface Team focuses on building devices that fully express the Windows vision…We are currently building the next generation (of Surface devices) and Surface needs you!”
The ad follows a recent move by Microsoft to revise its specifications for tablet devices to allow the manufacture of a 7-inch Windows 8-certified tablet.
Microsoft recently lowered the resolution requirements for displays to enable the manufacture of smaller screens.
The Windows 8 tablet devices have been fighting a steep uphill battle against other tablet devices such as Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Android-powered devices.
Microsoft is estimated to have sold some 1.5 million Surface RT devices and 400,000 Surface Pro devices, since last fall.
Analyst firm International Data Corp had earlier said that Microsoft erred in its strategy of offering users to separate touch-focused operating systems: The Windows RT and Windows 8.
IDC said consumers ended up confused with the twin choices and suggested that Microsoft focus on promoting Windows 8 instead.
The ad said the ideal candidate would be an “accomplished and well-rounded model maker in all the different disciplines of model making, from traditional model making to CNC to rapid prototyping.” The position calls for someone who can work with CAD data and artwork graphics
Microsoft stressed the need for interpersonal skills as the candidate will be closely collaborating with existing model makers
