Canada Post yesterday announced that is has inked a partnership with Woburn, Mass-based IT services provider OFS Global which aims to streamline and speed-up delivery of goods to online shoppers.
Although the national postal service has been impacted by developments in Internet technology as many businesses that used its services moved much of their communications online, Canada Post has been quick to look for opportunities aligned with online retail. It has reached out to e-commerce merchants to offer its shipping expertise and extensive delivery network.
E-commerce residential orders accounted for over $8 billion in sales last year and it is expected to shoot upwards to $16 billion in 2016, according to Canada Post. With those stats in mind, Canada is boosting its efforts to sign up more Canadian companies to it e-commerce shipping services.
“Our latest collaboration shows that Canada Post is committed to developing e-commerce in Canada,” said Rene Desmarais, senior VP for parcels at Canada Post. “By creating relationships with all players in the digital space, including IT experts, we are enabling retailers improve the end-to-end online shopping experience and better satisfy their customers.”

He said Canada Post’s suite of e-commerce tools and features will enable people who shop on Demandware-based merchant sites a range of shipping, delivery, tracking and easy product return options.
The Canada Post OSF collaboration will enable merchants to set realistic and accurate customer expectations with precise delivery dates and convenient delivery options, said Gerad Szatvanyi, CEO of OSF.
