Brocade buys Vyatta for undisclosed sum

Brocade Communications Systems Inc. has aqcuired Vyatta Inc., which develops open-source software for network virtualization and cloud computing environments.
 
 
Brocade, a major networking equipment vendor and Cisco Systems Inc. competitor, says the purchase will strengthen its ability to provide comprehensive virtualized network infrastructures, according to this NetworkWorld article.
 
Ken Cheng, a senior executive at Brocade, was quoted from a statement he made lauding the opportunity to expand its reach into the software-defined networking space: “We believe software networking to be a critical component in the next phase of network virtualization as enterprises are becoming increasingly virtualized and actively moving workloads to the cloud,” he said.
 
The acquisition should be completed by the end of the year, according to the article.
