Less than a year after filling its vacant federal CIO position, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat is set to hire a new CTO, ComputerWorld Canada has confirmed.
Benoit Long, who currently works as vice-president and CIO at The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre, will fill the Treasury Board’s vacant federal CTO position. He will succeed Chuck Henry, who held the position at the Treasury Board’s Chief Information Officer Branch from October 2005 to October 2009.
In addition to his time at the TCV and Trillium, Long worked directly for the Government of Canada between 1985 and 1993, according to his LinkedIn page. He held senior positions in such departments as Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Employment and Immigration Canada, and Human Resource Development Canada.
Following his stint with the government, Long worked for several years as a senior vice-president in variety roles at CIBC. He held a variety of positions during his tenure at the banking giant, including a stint as vice-president of planning and development for CIBC’s Internet Channel from 2001 to 2003.
Federal CIO Corinne Charette, who officially took office last May, worked as a senior vice-president at CIBC’s Internet Channel division at the same time as Long.
On his LinkedIn page, Long lists his areas of specialty in private sector banking and insurance, e-health, and the federal government.
